One suspect at large after Vermilion lease site break-ins
RCMP have laid charges in connection with two separate break-ins at lease sites in the County of Vermilion River, including one suspect who remains at large.
Police say officers from multiple detachments responded to a break and enter in progress on April 29 at a remote lease site. A police dog team tracked and located one suspect, while a second fled the area. RCMP later identified both men and issued a warrant for the arrest of the second.
As a result of that investigation, Christopher Swindlehurst, 47, and Colin Swindlehurst, 50, of Woodlands County were each charged with break and enter, mischief under $5,000, resisting arrest, possession of break-in tools and theft under $5,000. Christopher has since resolved his court matters. Colin remains at large.
On June 1, RCMP responded to another break-in at a lease site near Highway 640. James Hollis, 54, who has no fixed address, was arrested and charged with break and enter and possession of break-in tools. He was released by a justice of the peace and is due in court July 7 in Vermilion.
Sgt. Corey Buckingham of Vermilion RCMP thanked officers from surrounding detachments and Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services for their assistance in the investigations.
