Shootin’ the Breeze is an independent local newspaper serving as southwestern Alberta’s community connection.
Connect with us online and in print for local news, community features, events information and coverage, and much, much more — all relevant to Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass and surrounding area.
The publication’s unconventional name refers to the community connections we foster, the neighbourly style of writing found in our stories and the notorious winds that are found in the area.
Don’t let the whimsical name fool you though, because our team has been recognized twice as Pincher Creek’s Small Business of the Year and with numerous awards from the Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association.
Our team is local and is invested in the communities we serve. This has been the case since the inception of the business in 2011. It is our pleasure to share stories about the people, businesses, organizations, events, history and recreational opportunities that make this corner of the province unique.

Shannon grew up in the business and has long understood the value a community newspaper has in rural areas.
She was strongly influenced by the work of her parents, Heather and Oren Robison, who set a positive example in news coverage with integrity, supporting local businesses and being active in their community.
Shootin’ the Breeze grew from a small idea of building relations between Pincher Creek and Crowsnest Pass after Shannon moved to southwestern Alberta.
Wearing the publisher’s hat, Shannon has earned numerous awards of excellence from the Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association. This includes recognition for editorial, feature, health and news writing, photography, ad design and overall excellence.
Since its inception in 2011, Shootin’ the Breeze has been Shannon’s primary means of community service.
When not working, she enjoys living at the end of a dirt road with husband Jim and a menagerie of critters. Their little piece of heaven on the Castle River is a place of joy, peace, love and music.
