Parkland RCMP arrested a woman who brandished a firearm at two Stony Plain businesses on Sept. 3, including pointing the unloaded weapon at an employee while pulling the trigger.

Police responded at approximately 11:04 a.m. to reports of a woman visiting businesses along 48 Street while carrying a firearm. The woman, believed to be under the influence, first entered a bank with the firearm and requested envelopes.

After leaving the bank, she went to a nearby neighbourhood pharmacy. The woman began pointing the firearm in various directions, including at an employee, while pulling the trigger. Police later determined the gun wasn’t loaded.

Officers in the area quickly located the woman walking northbound on 48 Street. They approached her and ordered her to stop and put down the firearm. The woman initially complied but then resisted arrest before officers took her into custody without further incident.

A 35-year-old woman remains in custody pending completion of the investigation and a judicial hearing. She faces pending charges for weapons offences.
