Wetaskiwin RCMP charge repeat offender with trafficking
Wetaskiwin RCMP have charged a Leduc man with multiple drug trafficking and breach-related offences following a months-long investigation into alleged violations of court-ordered conditions.
According to Wetaskiwin RCMP, the Crime Reduction Unit and Leduc RCMP Drug Unit began investigating Daniel Golub, 30, in September to monitor compliance with an 18-month Community Sentence Order and a release order stemming from earlier drug trafficking investigations in 2024.
Police say Golub was observed breaching the conditions of those court orders on multiple occasions between September and December.
On Dec. 17, officers arrested Golub with assistance from the Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit and Police Dog Services. During the arrest, police say drug paraphernalia was observed inside his vehicle.
As a result, investigators obtained a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to search the vehicle and a holiday trailer. Police say the search resulted in the seizure of cash and suspected controlled substances.
Items seized during the investigation include $8,269 in Canadian currency, approximately 171 grams of methamphetamine, about 7.1 grams of cocaine, and 40 millilitres of gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB).
Golub has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, methamphetamine and GHB, possession of methamphetamine, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, three counts of failing to comply with a release order, and eight counts of breaching a community sentence order.
He was brought before a justice of the peace and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Ponoka on Dec. 19.
“Repeat offenders who continue to disregard court orders and engage in drug trafficking will be a priority for Wetaskiwin RCMP,” said Cpl. Learn of the Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit. “We will continue to use all available resources and work collaboratively with our district and specialized units to target those who pose a risk to community safety.”
“Collaboration between specialized units is critical in drug investigations,” said Cst. Scott Hansen of the Leduc RCMP Drug Unit. “Sharing intelligence and resources helps reduce the impact of illicit drugs in our communities.”
