A 22-year-old Maskwacis man is facing trafficking charges after Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit officers stopped a vehicle during patrols and discovered significant quantities of drugs.

On June 10, officers identified a known offender behind the wheel of a Hyundai Venue. Checks confirmed the individual did not have a valid driver’s licence. After pulling the vehicle over, police arrested both occupants when they discovered drugs inside.

A search incidental to arrest revealed approximately 27 grams of fentanyl and 53 grams of methamphetamine, along with other items commonly associated with drug trafficking.

Travis Bull, 22, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on June 12.

Charges are pending against the second occupant for possession for the purpose of trafficking. This individual was released and cannot be named until charges are sworn.

“Fentanyl and other drugs cause significant harm to our community,” said Cpl. John Learn of the Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit. “By proactively focusing our enforcement efforts on these known offenders we can have the largest impact.”

Anyone with information about illegal drug activity in the area is asked to contact Wetaskiwin RCMP at 780-312-7267 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.P3Tips.com.
