Rod McKenzie, a new owner of Westcastle Motors in Pincher Creek, is grateful for the community support he has received since taking over the dealership.
New owners take the wheel at Westcastle Motors
It is a long way from Edmonton to Pincher Creek, especially with a young family in the capital city and a new business here in town.
In December, Rod McKenzie took over as lead for a new four-person ownership team at Westcastle Motors. Having spent 20 years in the automotive industry — the last seven as general manager of another dealership — Rod took the opportunity when the previous owner looked to sell.
While he has been busy familiarizing himself with staff and learning General Motors’ sales and inventory software, his wife has been preparing to sell their Edmonton home and relocate their family to the region.
A grand opening event that brought in about 70 people Friday was a great start.
“The community here is incredible,” he says. “I couldn’t be more thankful and lucky that so many people came out to the dealership.”
Rod also speaks highly of his staff.
“They are incredible,” he says. “Transitioning between owners isn’t easy, but I feel very supported.”
Rod is taking on the venture at a time when geopolitical turmoil could greatly reduce fuel supplies. He points to the 2008 financial crisis, the Covid-19 lockdowns and other tumultuous times as previous challenges.
“There always have been and always will be some scary times. The main thing is for the community and individuals to pull together and look out for each other,” he says. “I sense that kind of attitude is alive and well here in Pincher Creek.”
Rod welcomes the community to stop by and check out vehicles on offer at Westcastle Motors and is keen for insider tips on things to see and do in the area.
