Chinooks second in tourney

Pincher Creek’s U11 Chinooks Team 1 hosted their home hockey tournament at the MCC Arena this past weekend.

The Chinooks kicked off the tournament in a big way with an impressive 7-5 victory over the Taber Oil Kings in Game 1.

The Oil Kings opened the scoring with three unanswered goals in the first period, but the Chinooks found their offensive touch in the second period, scoring four unanswered goals en route to their win.

In Game 2, the Chinooks put on an absolute clinic, posting an astounding 12-2 win against the Cochrane Rockies.

The Chinooks came out of the gate red-hot with a three-goal first period. The team continued to pile on the offence from there, scoring five goals in the second period and four in the third.

Game 3 saw the Chinooks go to battle against the Okotoks Oilers. The Chinooks came away with a hard-fought 6-3 victory over the rival Oilers, sending the Chinooks to the tournament final.

Pincher Creek opened the scoring early against Okotoks and carried an original 5-0 lead well into the second period.

The Oilers rallied for a goal late in the second period and two more early in the third to make it a 5-3 game, before Nash Lunn scored the sixth and final goal for the Huskies.

The Chinooks battled hard in the final, but the Eckville Eagles came away with the win in a 9-3 barn-burner.

Eckville opened the game with four straight goals. However, the Chinooks showed plenty of fight, responding with their first goal eight seconds after Eckville’s fourth.

The local team carried the momentum into the second period, scoring twice to make it a 4-3 contest, but Eckville went on to score five unanswered goals on the way to a game and tournament victory.

Congratulations to the U11 Pincher Creek Chinooks Team 1 on their stellar tournament run and impressive second-place finish!

The team returns to action this Saturday at 10:15 a.m. as they take on the Coaldale Cobras in Pincher Creek.
