A 37-year-old man faces multiple charges after police found him sleeping behind the wheel of a stolen pickup truck in Eckville.

Sylvan Lake RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle stopped in the middle of the driving lane on 51 Avenue and 51 Street at 7:15 a.m. Nov. 5.

Officers discovered the pickup truck was stolen and still running with the driver asleep inside. When police arrested the driver, the vehicle remained in drive and slowly rolled forward, striking a patrol car.

A search of the vehicle revealed quantities of methamphetamine, according to an RCMP news release.

The driver was identified as Taylor Kirk Curl, who had outstanding warrants and was breaching several release conditions.

Curl has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, operation while prohibited, operation while impaired by drug, operation while impaired by drug over the legal limit and five counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Curl appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 10 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
