A Fort McMurray man faces multiple charges after fleeing police and being found with stolen property from a rural Sturgeon County home.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP attempted to stop a suspicious pickup truck leaving a rural property around 3:10 a.m. on Dec. 14, according to Fort Saskatchewan RCMP. The vehicle fled but was disabled shortly after using a tire deflation device.

Officers arrested Sonny Giant, 44, and found several stolen credit cards and identification on him. A search warrant on the vehicle turned up additional stolen items belonging to the homeowners of the property where Giant was first observed.

Giant has been charged with flight from a peace officer, theft of credit card, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and illegal possession or trafficking of government documents.

He has been released and is scheduled to appear in Fort Saskatchewan provincial court on Jan. 15, 2026.
