A 19-year-old Slave Lake man died Monday morning after his SUV crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a logging truck on Highway 2.

The collision occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 30, according to Slave Lake RCMP. The westbound SUV appears to have lost control on black ice and crossed the centre line.

The first eastbound vehicle swerved to avoid a collision. The second, a logging truck hauling logs, was unable to avoid the SUV.

The logging truck driver called 911 and other motorists stopped to help. The SUV driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Road conditions are believed to be a contributing factor. The investigation is ongoing.
