It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Peter Koop, on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at the age of 93.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Peter Koop, on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at the age of 93.

Peter is survived by wife Lennie; children Larry (Esther) Koop, Pincher Creek, Alta., Eileen (Kim) Jessen, Calgary, Alta., and Daryl (Julie) Koop, Chilliwack, B.C.; grandchildren Crystal Koop, Michael Koop, Kelcie Jessen, Brayden (Margaret) Jessen, Amanda (Greg McKenzie) Koop, Zachary Koop; and sister-in-law Norma Koop, Abbotsford, B.C.

He was born and raised on the farm in the Ewelme district, Glenwood. He attended the Ewelme School, completing Grade 8, highest possible grade in school, and continued education at the Menno Bible Institute, Didsbury. There, he also met Lennie Janzen of Rosemary and they married May 1, 1952. They farmed in the Halifax district, Pincher Creek, until 1999, when they moved to Lethbridge. In 2021, ill health moved them to Calgary.

Pete drove school bus and was an active and passive member of Springridge Mennonite Church, where he sang with the men’s quartet and choir. Blue Jays baseball and Calgary Flames hockey were favourites. He enjoyed attending several Flames games in his time. Also, Farmers & Sunday School picnics with games and “lots” of ice cream were enjoyed.

He is the last, and youngest, of his siblings. Predeceased by infant son Dennis Roy; his parents, Aaron and Helen; siblings John, Mary, Abe, Henry, Aaron, Katie; as well as an infant sister.

A private memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, at Springridge Mennonite Church, Pincher Creek. Urn interment to follow in the church cemetery. For those who wish, live streaming will be available by visiting
www.generationsfh.ca and scrolling to the bottom of Peter’s obituary.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider a donation to a charity of your choosing.
