Lloydminster RCMP are continuing to investigate after a device found in a residential backyard was confirmed to be a pipe bomb.
Officers responded to a call at 9:11 a.m. on June 12 reporting a suspicious object in the yard of a home near 41 Street and 49 Avenue.
The area was quickly secured and the Alberta RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit was brought in to assess and dismantle the device.
The unit confirmed the object was indeed a pipe bomb.
“We understand that these situations can be stressful for members of the community and Albertans in general,” said Cpl. Christopher Byford, Acting Operations Support NCO for the Lloydminster RCMP.
“We are hard at work investigating the issue and getting the answers the public needs in order to ensure their safety.”
RCMP say it is still unclear whether this was an isolated incident or if there may be other explosive devices in the area.
Officers from Alberta RCMP’s Police Dog Services and the Lloydminster General Investigation Section have joined the investigation.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and avoid approaching any suspicious objects.
