Sept 13. south zone Covid-19 update
Pincher Creek Health Centre
now under outbreak status

Covid-19 Update
By Shannon Robison

Alberta Health Services confirmed to Shootin' the Breeze today that the Pincher Creek Health Centre is now under outbreak status. An AHS representative says the health centre remains a safe place to visit and to receive care and that there is no increased risk to patients coming to the hospital.

"We strongly urge all Albertans to get immunized with both doses to protect themselves and others, as the vast majority of Covid-positive Albertans in our hospitals and ICUs are unvaccinated," says Gwen Wirth, south-zone communications director for AHS. "We also urge people to continue to follow simple Covid-19 precautions such as staying home when sick and regular hand washing."

Alberta now has 803 people admitted to hospitals for Covid-19 treatment – a pandemic high, surpassing the peak of 737 on May 11.

Intensive care admissions have also reached a pandemic high of 198. The previous record was 187 in ICU on May 17.

Eighteen deaths were reported over the weekend, affecting all zones (five in the south).

Those who have taken first or second doses of vaccine since Sept. 3 and wish to take advantage of the $100 incentive offered by the provincial government can now register online at alberta.ca/VaccineDebitCard or by calling 310-0000.

The first 15,000 to register will receive their debit cards in October and additional eligible registrants will get their cards in November and December. The program is in effect until Oct. 14.

The Campbell Clinic South and Family Medical Centre labs in Lethbridge are temporarily closed, effective today, due to staffing shortages.

Patients with existing appointments have been contacted and rebooked. These locations will be reopened as soon as possible.

Patients requiring lab services can find walk-in service (appointments preferred) at the Lethbridge Community Lab at Chinook Regional Hospital, and by appointment only at the Bigelow Fowler Clinics south and west. Appointments can be booked online at www.APLappointments.ca or by calling 1-833-572-0577.

The largest increase in active cases today is again seen in the 10 to 19 age group, followed closely by those 30 to 39.

Active cases broken down by age group:
100 – under one year – increase of 1
665 – 1 to 4 years – increase of 91

This Covid-19 update provides details for Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass and all communities in the south zone, and more general information for other zones and Alberta as a whole. It includes new cases and positivity rates, active cases, recoveries and recovery rates, hospitalizations and ICU admissions, deaths and mortality rates, R values, outbreaks, school information, immunization updates, Alberta Health video and more, compiled from Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services data.

Updates are provided every day that Alberta Health releases new data. The goal of our posts is to provide all of the detailed information in an easy-to-understand format and all in one place. Thank you for supporting our advertisers and for choosing Shootin' the Breeze as an information source.

"The zone of current hospitalization and current ICU admission are based on a patient's location of hospitalization, not the zone of patient residence. For example, a Pincher Creek resident hospitalized in Calgary is categorized as an active case in the Pincher Creek region, and their hospitalization statistic will show in the Calgary zone.

Alberta Health shares information regarding deaths as soon as it is available. There can be delays in death reporting to Alberta Health or in post-mortem confirmation of a death having Covid-19 as a contributing cause. The number reported on any given day is typically a total from multiple days.
