June 10 Covid-19 update

June 10 Covid-19 update
Waterton now Covid-free

Covid-19 Update
Jenaya Launstein

Stage 2 of Alberta’s Open For Summer Plan went into effect today. More information on the easing of restrictions is available here.

Thanks to an increase in supply of Covid-19 vaccines, the province is speeding up their vaccine rollout.

Prior to today, those who received their first dose in April could book their second dose starting June 14 — this has now been changed and you may book your second dose immediately. This means 650,000 more Albertans are eligible for their second dose.

Those who received their first dose of the vaccine in May are still scheduled to begin booking their second dose starting June 28, but this date could be accelerated should additional supply arrive.

Turning to today’s numbers, it was a busy day for the southwestern corner of Alberta. Another recovery in Waterton means the area is now Covid-free, the Pincher Creek area counted two new cases, and Crowsnest Pass reported a recovery.

Today’s update includes the death of a man in his 60’s from Cypress County. We extend our condolences to his family and friends.

Please note that Alberta Health did not update their vaccination charts today, so immunization information included in the community breakdown in today’s update is unchanged from yesterday.

As of June 9 there are 1,396,976 cases of Covid-19 across Canada.

To date, 5.2 per cent of Albertans are confirmed to have contracted the virus.

Statistics in this post are current as of June 9 and were updated June 10

This Covid-19 update provides details for Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass and all communities in the south zone, and more general information for other zones and Alberta as a whole. It includes new cases and positivity rates, active cases, recoveries and recovery rates, hospitalizations and ICU admissions, deaths and mortality rates, R values, outbreaks, school information, immunization updates, Alberta Health video and more, compiled from Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services data.

Updates are provided every day that Alberta Health releases new data. The goal of our posts is to provide all of the detailed information in an easy-to-understand format and all in one place. Thank you for supporting our advertisers and for choosing Shootin' the Breeze as an information source.

"The zone of current hospitalization and current ICU admission are based on a patient's location of hospitalization, not the zone of patient residence. For example, a Pincher Creek resident hospitalized in Calgary is categorized as an active case in the Pincher Creek region, and their hospitalization statistic will show in the Calgary zone.

Alberta Health shares information regarding deaths as soon as it is available. There can be delays in death reporting to Alberta Health or in post-mortem confirmation of a death having Covid-19 as a contributing cause. The number reported on any given day is typically a total from multiple days."
