Seven new COVID-19 cases in south zone today

Friday, 22 May 2020.

Cardston County/Kainai, Lethbridge, Brooks, County of Newell and Medicine Hat all have new cases of the virus diagnosed along with 11 new recoveries. The number of people hospitalized in Alberta’s south zone has dropped from four to two and none are in intensive care.

There were 32 new cases confirmed across the province, 91 more have recovered and, unfortunately, two more have died.

Less than 1,000 active cases of COVID-19 now in Alberta

There are four new cases in the south zone – one each in Cardston County/Kainai and Lethbridge, and two in Medicine Hat.

With 5,710 people now recovered from the virus, the number of active cases of COVID-19 in the province is now at 926.

Dr. Hinshaw warns it's important not to get lulled into a false sense of security as it is too early yet to knkow the full impact of Stage 1 of Alberta's relaunch. Results are encouraging but progress depends on our collective actions.


Claresholm physician closing practice

Dr. Roisin Dempsey has given notice to her patients that her practice in Claresholm will close July 24.

"The recent government cuts have been very destabilizing to my rural family medicine practice. I also have greater family commitments now with my children, and I have not been able to strike a good balance between work and family life."

Pincher Creek opens some recreation locations
Update from Pincher Creek Regional Emergency Management Organization:

Outdoor gatherings are now permitted to have up to 50 people. Indoor gatherings remain restricted to 15.

Several recreational locations in the Town of Pincher Creek are now open, but recreation sites in the MD of Pincher Creek and Village of Cowley remain closed.
