Devon and Parkland RCMP have arrested two men following a vehicle flight and collision west of Devon.

On Dec. 29, Parkland Peace Officers attempted a traffic stop when the driver fled and later crashed into a tree near the intersection of Township Road 511 and Range Road 270. Devon RCMP were notified that the driver had run from the vehicle on foot without shoes.

With assistance from RCMP Police Dog Services and Parkland RCMP, officers located and arrested the driver a short time later. Police say a handgun, approximately 16.4 grams of suspected cocaine, 45 suspected oxycodone pills and $2,618 in cash were seized during the arrest. A male passenger from the vehicle was also taken into custody.

John Salminen, 44, of Devon, who was a passenger in the vehicle, has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a restricted firearm or prohibited weapon with ammunition without a licence or registration, possession of a prohibited weapon knowing possession was unauthorized, and two additional offences.

Kyle Fox, 38, of Edmonton, who police say was driving the vehicle, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking under $5,000, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, flight from a peace officer where no pursuit was involved, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and 15 additional charges.

Salminen was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton on Jan. 2, 2026. Fox was also remanded and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in St. Albert on Jan. 7, 2026.
