Grande Cache RCMP charged a 17-year-old with aggravated assault and theft after a man was attacked near the Grande Cache Community High School.

Police responded to reports of a man who was assaulted by up to four people around 3:10 a.m. on Sept. 6.

Emergency medical services tended to the victim at the scene while he spoke to police. He told officers the attackers had stolen from him and identified one suspect. EMS transported the victim to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Police later located and arrested this suspect and are still trying to identify the others.

The Grande Cache teen faces charges of aggravated assault and theft under $5,000. He was released on conditions with a court date scheduled for Nov. 20 at Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Cache.

“These types of crime against members of our community are unacceptable,” said Sgt. Nicole Viergutz, detachment commander of Grande Cache RCMP. “We hope that anyone who has information regarding this incident will come forth and help with the investigation or that those responsible will turn themselves in.”

Police ask anyone with footage of the high school area between 2:30 and 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 6 to review and submit any relevant material.
