Low-level night flights begin near Nakiska ahead of G7 summit
Residents and visitors in the Kananaskis area may notice increased helicopter activity over the next two weeks as Royal Canadian Air Force crews conduct low-level night flights in preparation for the G7 Leaders’ Summit.
From June 5 to 18, helicopters will be flying at altitudes of 2,000 feet or lower within a 35-nautical-mile radius — roughly 65 kilometres — around Nakiska Ski Hill. Operations will take place between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., and may include operations and landings in designated areas.
The nighttime exercises are part of readiness training in support of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, who are leading the security operation for the summit. The Canadian Armed Forces say the training is essential to ensuring personnel are fully prepared to help provide a safe and secure environment throughout the international event.
Officials thank the public for their understanding during the exercise period.
