The RCMP have announced temporary airspace restrictions over Calgary and Kananaskis ahead of the 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit, set to take place mid-June.

As the lead agency for the G7 Integrated Safety Security Group, the RCMP will implement a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) restricting air traffic from June 14 at 6 a.m. to June 17 at 11:59 p.m. local time.

Working in co-ordination with Transport Canada, the Canadian Armed Forces, and NAV CANADA, the RCMP will oversee the secure management of air traffic in the Summit area.

Two restricted airspace zones (CYR) will be in effect:

  • CYR 292 will cover a 30-nautical-mile radius centred on Kananaskis Village, excluding the Calgary/Springbank Airport control zone. CYAs 226 and 227 will not be active.

  • CYR 293 will cover a 20-nautical-mile radius centred on Calgary International Airport, excluding CYR 292 and including the Springbank control zone. CYA 228 will not be active.

The restricted zones are designated for authorized aircraft involved in security or emergency operations only. Unauthorized flights will not be permitted during the designated period. Specific times and restrictions will be detailed in a NOTAM closer to the event.

The RCMP emphasize that these measures are intended to ensure the safety of global leaders, residents and visitors during the Summit.
