The Drayton Valley Thunder are on the hunt for a new head coach and general manager.

Last Friday, June 13, the team announced that Geoff Walker had resigned from the position, effective immediately.

“We thank Geoff for his contributions to the Drayton Valley Thunder organization,” said team President, Kevin Young. “We appreciate his efforts during his time with the team and wish him the best in his future endeavours.”

Walker joined the team prior to the 2023-2024 Alberta Junior Hockey League season after leaving a position with the Kam River Fighting Walleye of the Superior International Junior Hockey League.

Last season the Thunder finished in fifth place in the AJHL South Division, missing out on the post season and sitting 15 points behind the Camrose Kodiaks in the race for the final playoff spot.

The team is now actively recruiting for an individual to replace Walker prior to the start of the upcoming season in September.

Before that, the team is hosting a Kids’ Hockey Camp at the Omniplex for the U9 to U 15 age groups at the Omniplex from August 18-22.
