A 42-year-old man has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder after a double homicide in Grande Prairie County prompted a dangerous person alert on Saturday.

Curtis Phillip Halladay was arrested near McLennan just after 1 p.m. on Dec. 27 by the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team, according to Alberta RCMP.

The victims have been identified as David Lagace, 54, and Michelle Lagace, 44.

Grande Prairie Rural RCMP responded to reports of a shooting in progress in the early hours of Dec. 27 on a rural road near Range Road 35 and Township Road 730. Officers found both victims dead at the scene.

Police quickly identified a suspect and activated a public alert warning residents in northwestern Alberta that an armed and dangerous man was on the run. Halladay was last seen driving a black 2022 Ford F-350 near LaGlace before his arrest hours later.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit took over the investigation.

“This investigation saw the rapid deployment of a significant amount of police resources managed by the Alberta RCMP Real Time Operations Centre in order to promptly investigate the offence, warn the public, and arrest this dangerous individual,” says Staff Sgt. Todd Wiebe of the Major Crimes Unit. “Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the victims.”

Halladay has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie provincial court on Jan. 8, 2026.
