Albertans can now apply for a one-time $100 energy rebate from the province, with applications open until Sept. 30.

The payment goes to each eligible adult and is meant to help with everyday costs such as fuel, groceries and utilities. The province says nearly 3.4 million Albertans are eligible.

Who qualifies

To be eligible, an applicant must:

—Be 18 or older.

—Be an Alberta resident with a verified alberta.ca account.

—Have filed a 2025 tax return.

—Have a household income of $225,000 or less.

For the rebate, a household means a single person or two people who are married or common-law. Adults living at the same address who aren’t married or common-law — including roommates, adult children and other adult relatives — count as separate households and each must apply on their own.

Albertans already receiving the Alberta Seniors Benefit, Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped, the Alberta Disability Assistance Program or Income Support as of July 1 are enrolled automatically and don’t need to apply.

How to apply

Applications are made online through the province’s portal at energyrebate.alberta.ca. Applicants log into a verified alberta.ca account (or create one), confirm that the mailing address on their driver’s licence or ID card matches their account, and submit.

Eligible applicants receive payment by Interac e-Transfer within 14 days. Those without e-Transfer set up can arrange it through their bank. The rebate is non-taxable and does not affect eligibility for other provincial or federal benefits.

Applications close Sept. 30.
